The final Ford GT, reviewing futuristic cars, living in a futuristic place, and bricking a futuristic Hummer

lunchbox 68

Before getting into the newsletter, let me first point out it’s both really cool to track down shelved race car engine parts…and really dumb to ground said parts down into a powder used to 3D print dash plaques.

And so, the 2022 Ford GT LM Edition.

Where instead of including a vintage bottle of wine from a Ford family collection, two tickets to the 2023 Le Mans 24 Hours, or a free oil change, the Best Modern Ford is sent out to pasture branded with blood tapped from the family tree just so some guy can point and white lie to friends, saying: “THiS Is frOm A rEaL RaCe cAR!”

(This doesn’t change the fact the car and its achievements are still awesome. ✌️)

Alexi, aka noriyaro, dropped a vlog of recent goings-on. I’ll try to sum it up, but no promises:

  • First-person drone runs at a facility for drifting.
  • Steam rooms and recirculating bathtubs.
  • Urban outdoor pet rabbit runs.
  • An honest to goodness vintage Rolls-Royce delivery van operating in Tokyo.

And people wonder why I would want to live in Japan, at least for a few months out of the year…

ℛ • Review roundup—the perfect two-car garage? 2022 Caterham Super Seven 2000 and 2023 Lightyear 0.

“I drove the Caterham in the same week as the Genesis Electrified GV70 and Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric, and the Seven was the perfect reset button. That's not to detract from the two electric cars, quite the contrary – they’re smooth, quick, easy to drive and, not unimportantly, have a radio. A Caterham is so perfectly opposite that as long as it’s not regulated out of existence, it would also be the perfect complement to a long-range EV in a future two-car garage.” –Illya Verpraet

“For a European driver averaging 35 km (22 miles) a day, the sun could extend recharging intervals to as long as two months in a cloudy environment like The Netherlands. In a sunny spot like Portugal (or Arizona, perhaps?), that interval between recharges might go as long as seven months.”  – John Voelcker

Finally:

I watched all 24 minutes, and the GMC Hummer EV really did brick itself in a turn lane, in heavy traffic, in the rain. In order to maintain impartiality, TFL buys its own vehicles: this is not a loaner.

Top comment : “Well, at least we know for sure that GM is keeping the same quality into their EV line 😂”

(Have they been reading my Twitter lately??)

Commenters are wondering the same things I’ve been: if this is how things are when it’s under warranty, what good is an over-the-air update in 15 years if the car is bricked to begin with? Would the new General Motors please stand up?
