To boldly race NASCAR where many, many (many) extraordinary people have gone before

It’s tough to understate how much of an achievement it was for NASCAR to create a temporary exhibition track—and race!—inside the LA Coliseum. When researching this short feature ahead of this weekend’s race, I was reminded that the list of events held at the LA Coliseum and luminaries hosted within is nearly unbelievable.

Imagine these former honored LA Coliseum guests sharing a section when you watch the race on Sunday: Evel Knievel, Pope John Paul II; Prince, Martin Luther King, Jr., Richard Nixon, the Dalai Lama and Pele.

In operation for 99 years and having hosted two Summer Olympics along the way—and once more planned for 2028—it took some truly out-of-the-oval thinking to send a paving crew into the LA Coliseum—to be raced by entirely brand-new stock cars (NASCAR Next Gen).

Visit NASCAR.com and check out the listings in your area, with the main event—the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum—slated for 6 PM EST on Sunday, February 6.

Why? It’s one of those racing events you’ll kick yourself for missing.

“To be blunt, it is bumper-to-bumper
close-quarters combat.”
