Mazda Lego Car

Weird Car of the Day #364: 1999 Mazda Lego Car – Corner cutter

It takes strength to admit that I don’t know what I’m doing here.

Sure, I have written about mockup designs before. Sure, I have written about Mazda before. And I’ve come across strange cars on manufacturer websites many (many) times before.

Though never quite like this.

There is no information about the 1999 Mazda Lego Car. I can’t find information about it. H-e-l-p.

Online, there are plenty of Mazda Lego kits, but none are of a concept car — indeed, to this day (even with the explosion in popularity for the plastic brick brand) I think Mazda is one of the few (if only) car manufacturers to create a concept design that lives only as Lego.

If you have information about this three-wheeled car, or knew someone who worked at Mazda in the late 1990s (this “car” likely originated in Europe), please forward this story along and I’ll do my utmost to build a history.

Brick by brick.

Today is a bit of a cheat post, as the 1999 Mazda Lego Car is clearly not drivable (and is in small scale), however I can’t help but assume there are sketches or models of it from Mazda’s design studios. Or maybe it was a contest that people had to enter.

Now that I know about it, you do too. Now that I’m haunted by a gap in my automotive knowledge…you are also cursed. You’re welcome.

Back to regularly scheduled weirdness tomorrow. ;)
