Get rid of the badges, and is this the all-electric crossover you wish Mazda had made? Infiniti? Buick? In reality, Voyah is a premium electric brand created by Dongfeng.

Whatever—it’s just another example of how—when it comes to electric vehicles—how far ahead the Chinese car market is. We’ll list out some of the highlight specs on the Voyah FREE (岚图FREE), but not before a quick note on its name:

All of Voyah’s marketing emails will end up in spam if the company uses the word ‘FREE’ too much.

Before you look away as if this crossover isn’t a thing—the company has already sold more than 10,000 of them, according to CarNewsChina. It reports:

“There are three versions of Voyah Free. The first one is fully electric with rear-wheel drive and output of 347 horsepower and 520 Nm. The second one is also fully electric, has an all-wheel drive, and delivers 694 hp and 1040 Nm. And last but not least is the range-extended hybrid version with a 1.5-liter engine that charges the battery.”

Pricing would place the top model below $60,000 Usd. at current exchange rates.

But it must be poorly-made, right? What about crash tests? Five stars. Some of the other features packed into the FREE lineup:

  • Claimed 4.5 seconds 0-100 km/h and 200 km/h (135 mph) top speed for the AWD electric version
  • 100mm adjustable air suspension
  • available night vision monitor
  • available Dynaudio audio system
  • range estimate (NEDC) at up to 860 km (534 mi)
  • PM2.5 cabin air management system
  • 5G connectivity
  • full driver assistance suite

Not too shabby. Voyah calls its design language “yacht style” — all this crossover seems to need is some George Benson cranking over the Dynaudio…
